With an enclosed garden, which backs on to the dunes, this two bedroom terraced house is ideally situated for the active seeking adventure or those wishing to relax and enjoy a peaceful break.  Tegeirian is a holiday cottage in the village of Newton, near Porthcawl, set in Newton Burrows sand dunes which lead to Newton Beach and the Merthyr Mawr Nature reserve.  This unique ecosystem of sand dunes stretches for over 840 acres. From the beach there are fantastic panoramic views to Ogmore and across to Devon. The All Wales Coastal Path runs nearby making it an easy walk to Porthcawl Marina and seafront where there are a wide variety of places to eat out. The historic village of Newton, five minutes walk away, with its tales and legends of smugglers is centred round a twelfth century Church.  Beside the church and village green is a children’s playpark and two popular village pubs. A further three minutes walking leads to two of the three, small, but well stocked, convenience stores and a post office. Indoor swimming pool, leisure and sports activities are also within walking distance .

The house is called Tegeirian (Welsh for orchid) as the nearby Kenfig National Nature Reserve is home to the rare fen orchid and one of the last places in the UK where the dune form grows.

Open plan lounge and dining area with comfy sofa, arm chair and bean bag recliner. TV (with Freesat and Netflix) , selection of books and traditional board games. Dining table with seating for 4.

Fully equipped kitchen with electric oven and gas hob, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge (with one tray freezer compartment), toaster, kettle and microwave. 

 

Upstairs

Bedroom 1 - Master bedroom with double bed, wardrobe and vanity station, USB charging point, luggage stand

Bedroom 2 - Two single beds with wardrobe, towel stand and chair. 

Bathroom with bath, shower over bath, large mirror, wc and basin.

 

Outside

Enclosed rear garden with patio, lawn (artificial grass) and decking with table and chairs.  Child table and seats, 2 picnic chairs.  Gate access to dunes and beach from garden.

Location

Tegeirian is a mid-link house set on a quiet residential street backing on to extensive sand dunes and Newton Beach. Within walking distance are several other beaches, pubs, convenience stores, the Grand Pavilion, marina, breakwater, promenade and fun fair. All weather attractions include a swimming pool, water park and activity centre. 

Merthyr Mawr Sand Dunes are a huge network of dunes stretching past Porthcawl and across to the Kenfig National Nature Reserve. At one time this was the largest sand dune system in Europe. The dunes are very popular with walkers,families,runners and local wildlife enthusiasts. Scenes from several famous films were shot here and several elite athletes have used them to train including Steve Ovett in the run up to his gold medal at the 1980 Olympics.

Across the Borough is the Bridgend Designer Outlet for some shopping therapy, Odeon Cinema Complex and Ewenny Craft Centre. Being only a short drive away from Cardiff and Swansea there are also plenty of shopping opportunities and large sporting or musical events are easily accessible. With the Gower Peninsula and the mountains and valleys of South Wales all close by, the only problem will be agreeing where to go first.

These can encompass just about any sphere of interest or activity from the National Botanic gardens in the west to the Royal Mint in the east, from castles to caves, mountains to valleys, adventure or relaxation.  You may of course choose to sit in the sun trap of the garden and enjoy the bird song and sound of the waves.  Here are some ideas and suggestions and Visit Bridgend provides lots more

 

Beaches

Stretching, approximately 3 miles, from Newton Point in the east to the mouth of the River Ogmore in the west, Newtown beach is right behind the house. 0.1 miles

From Wick Beach to the west (5 miles) to Kenfig Sands to the east (5 miles) are another 11 beaches.
